Awards

Our hackathon events see people collaborate to bring ideas to life. We’ve run hackathons on Tourism Tech, Climate and Social Change. The outputs of these were the creation of two Augmented Reality apps Ciar’s Quest and the Kerry Way Digital Companion to support Kerry tourism.

Our Champion Changemakers social entrepreneur finalists Shamrock Squad won the national award for their project which helps people of all abilities enjoy hiking trails.

This is the home of the award winning STEM passport programme which allowed hundreds of secondary school girls experience STEM projects, the completion of which led to additional CAO points for STEM-related college courses.

Our annual John McCarthy AI Summer school is an annual 2 day event which brings together the brightest minds in the field of Artificial Intelligence, across both core and applied research. The RDI hub building is dedicated to John McCarthy as a tribute to the Stanford University computer scientist. McCarthy was one of the founders of the discipline of artificial intelligence and his father was born in Cromane, near Killorglin in Co Kerry. In the late 1950s McCarthy invented LISP which became the programming language of choice for AI applications. Every year we run the John McCarthy AI Summer school event to bring together key opinion leaders speaking on a different theme each year as to how artificial intelligence is affecting the world we live in. We also collaborate with Microsoft to deliver a series of AI masterclasses exploring different elements of Generative AI and how they can be leveraged for business.

The RDI hub also won the Digital Ireland Awards in the category Business hub of the year 2022.
